Today we let someone else take the lead and signed up for a walking tour around Recoleta, a barrio of BA. We got off to quite an adventurous start when the bus we took did not close it's doors because it was too full. Capucine and I were left hanging out of it, flailing in the wind - well not quite but that's definitely what it felt like! The main attraction of this area is the cemetery which houses most of Argentina's rich and famous deceased. Including the much acclaimed Eva Perron.
As we left the group to continue our meandering, the girls launched into a debate about the most good looking football players and I tagged along, lacking the knowledge to contribute anything to the conversation!
We stopped for a pitstop in Havanas, a coffee chain that had been strongly recommended by Celine, my childhood friend who lived here for six months and has been providing us with invaluable knowledge. The girls indulged in a white chocolate latte while I tried an alfajor, an argentine delicacy.
We decided not to watch the Germany- Brazil match because we had planned to explore La Boca, the blue collar quarter. However, we regularly popped our heads into bars who were playing it to keep updated. Capucine is half German so she was rapidly squealing with delight and ended the evening feeling very proud indeed!
All three of us were charmed by La Boca with it's multicoloured houses and graceful ageing.
We are now setting off to our first tango lesson, wish us luck! Here's a little piece of Argentinian wisdom for you:
